Katy Shepherd’s practice includes painting, drawing and animation. The themes that she frequently returns to include loss in it’s many forms and the nature of memory.
Katy’s response to the “Into the Woods “ project was to revisit a public woodland and garden close to her family home that she used to play in as a child, climbing trees and watching the birds. Remembering how disappointed she was all those years ago when a significant portion of her favourite place was then turned into a car park she decided to examine the relationship between trees and cars and their competion for space. Katy photographed the car park on two occasions and used those images to paint from in acrylic and oils. During this process she found herself becoming more and more interested in the reflections of the remaining trees around the perimeter of the car park upon the hard surfaces of the vehicles.
